"Transform the world by giving people the tools to transform themselves"
Dr. Mansukh Patel
What is yoga?
The word Yoga means ‘unity’ and derives from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj ’meaning ‘to join’. The ethos of yoga is the basis of our passion for helping others to improve their health and wellbeing.
Most people have either had first-hand experience of yoga or know of someone who practices it – even if it’s famous actors such as Gwyneth Paltrow or professional rugby or football players. The science and practice of yoga is described in the ancient yogic text ‘The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali’ written approximately 5,000 BCE. The text describes the Eight Limbs of Yoga which include the codes of abstinence and observance; posture work; breath control; sense withdrawal; concentration; meditation and Samadhi or super-conscious state. In the West the various schools of yoga focus on hatha yoga which incorporates posture work, breath control and meditation.
Who can practice yoga?
Everyone! At Kim Kinsella Therapies we are passionate about making yoga accessible to all – and even if you can’t touch your toes we will help you visualize getting there.
